@mark your analysis is wrong. I posted a project of mine, yes openly written by ai, no secret about that. Its a long going effort to collect information of 20 years of mesh network ideas. As much a research documentation effort as a try at building something new. Not a blatant copy in any way, also not a mindless journey, also not a short journey.

I am tired of your judgements on people and their motives.

I am critizing rightfully your antagonizing of communities and community members. I respect your ownership of your repo. I disagree with your license.

I think its wrong that you are being treating people how you do. I think its wrong to assume ai==one-singular-worst-case
I think its wrong to assume that everybody who tries to produce code using ai is lazy and attention seeking.
And your actions by using said same weapon (llm) to spur out stuff you would never read yourself purely because ot was openly written by ai is hideous and a weird attack on ken who has been polite while you and zenith has repetedly attacked him.

Its enough, you are showing bad leadership in a community sense.

And i am not alone in my thoughts.

That is the same guy who went on a reddit rampage last week, calling for "removing Mark from the equation", all because his advertising post for his completely nonsensical LLM slop was moved to the another category on this forum (for breaking the, cleanly stated, forum rules).
point.

So its not ok to post links to projects made with ai but cool to post angry llm generated stuff directly in chat?

I mean, haven't run the numbers, but I think your observation about it always being anons and people without an RNS ident yelling up like this is pretty accurate. Not a decision for me to make, but maybe it's worth considering whether posting should require actually having used Reticulum, just... at least once.

How do you know people dont have rns ident? And how do you know people dont use rns?

You are using assumptions and allegations to shut people down.

Why cant you see it? I have been running a reticulum node on public ip for 3 years, many gb of traffic going through it. I want rns to succeed. But i am feeling miserable because of the bad example you set in governing discussions.

Why cant you see the problematic behavior, just because every disgracefull attack you make get instant upvotes it doesnt make it right

Yeah, you are making a great case for yourself ;) (Both these posts are, again, from Supernihil)

It's fine though. Keep having an adult tantrum over literally nothing you deranged freak.

Also no idea why you're putting pictures of Steve up there. I'm not KC1AWV, if your intention is to go bother him with retarded bullshit next, don't.

Mark is right about being upset that a tool was created with limited knowledge using LLM tools that may or may not harm the network.
However, he is not entitled to his response. Getting upset does not equal bullying.
His word, his response, is not final - he is the creator of this amazing network stack. He is a guide, if he wishes to be, on the overall Zen of Reticulum. There is no centralization of power or control in that Zen. Decentralization allows for better checks and balances.
What I'm trying to say is, everyone take a step back, and take the feedback.

Mark, Zenith, others, you have put so much work into this. I will not pretend to know the sacrifices you have made to make this all work. I know there is blood, sweat, and tears left on these projects. Do not let your frustrations get the best of you. You don't have to mock using LLM's, you don't have to run polls to ban someone.

You have been wrong before. This response does not seem to align with the stated values of community that you have worked so hard to propagate (pun?) through the creation of this network. Thank you for all the work you've done, and I'm sorry that something has come up that you feel may be a threat to all your effort.

KenAKAFrosty, you have been enthusiastic about this technology for years, I've watched your videos and posts and I can see you really care about this project. This project, Mark, Zenith, they all need people to care about it. Thank you for your efforts, and I'm sorry that your mistakes were labeled with negative intention, and that people you have looked to as guides have responded the way they have. The speed in which this tool was made is impressive, and LLMs can help us bring ideas to life - but that does not mean it's production ready or safe.

Ken, take the feedback. Mark, take the feedback. You can both admit there are truths here. Mark is seeing the signs of a hastily made tool. It was made in good intentions, and in the best way Ken knew how to do. Now it's time to learn something from this. There is obviously a need here for a way to determine whether a tool is production ready and safe. There needs to be tests that determine: Will this cause harm?

Let's keep it moving, let's respect and attribute the original efforts, and let's not punish each other for trying. Next time this happens, give your opinion, say it's not production ready, ask for it to be tested, ask for others to test it, etc. All Ken was trying to do was fill a gap he saw, and all Mark was trying to do was protect the hard work of everyone. We are together in this, not against each other. Take the feedback.

@mecayotl, in my view, your post and the consequences of it, is a worse poison that that of the actions by Ken.

Please take your time and mental energy to answer these questions truthfully:

  • What gap was it you think Ken saw and was trying to fill? (A C++ and Go implementation of Reticulum already exists and is actively being used)
  • Why is it OK that a person (Ken in this example), starts Claude with an initial message stating:

"You owe the reference fidelity at exactly two boundaries: The wire. ... The behavior. ... Between those two boundaries, the model is yours."

  • Ken makes the machine copy RNS and gives it free reign to design the whole thing to its own confused liking, he hides his tracks and do not give attribution - Claiming this project is his own doing. Why do you endorse this behavior?
  • Why is it OK for Ken to market his Prns implementation as 89x faster than Reticulum, when it was a 100% false claim? (As Mark shows in his detailed description of the matter)
  • Why it is OK to market Prns as "Enforced and Audited" on his website, encouraging users to switch to his "Complete" implementation?
  • Where exactly in Mark's posts is he bullying Ken? I fail to see it.

In your post you endorse these actions, a pat on the back to a person for behaving very, very badly. What right did Ken have, to steal 10+ years of work - And make fake market hype about his superior Reticulum implementation in his own name, and for "the greater good of humanity"? Tell me honestly, what right did he have to do this? You defend him so you must have a reason.

It sounds like you say: Awwww, but Ken had good intentions, he is a good boy, give him some slack, he means well deep down...

With the behavior that he shows, I say BS to that pat on the back crap! If we cannot call awful behavior awful, if we cannot call a bad job a bad job - We loose something very precious and our human race will degrade rapidly! When I behave badly or if I do a bad job at something, I want people to tell me, so that I can improve and grow as a human and actually learn something in the process.

Just the fact alone that Ken's project was heavily marketed (he was asking for money!) by "the fact" that his implementation was 89x faster than the RNS, puts him in the category of people unfit to handle a project like this.
Whether this was intentional or not is besides the point (as Mark already wrote himself).

IF it was intentional -> It reveals him as a deliberate bad actor
IF it was unintentional -> It reveals an immense laziness and unwillingness to review his LLM generated code. If he did not even review his test setup on which he based his marketing on, how many other catastrophic code sections lurks in the 637,000-lines of rust code?

I know I am not fit to start a project like this, and I am fine with this. If you want to develop take it seriously, if you want to be a user enjoy and play and build small things in your community.

I think a lot of people forget something here:

This is not a game engine, this is not a hobby project - This is infrastructure!

The only people that seems to take this fact serious is Mark + a few others.

These machines, these LLM's, are the most powerful tool the human hand/consciousness has ever wielded. They have immense capacity to produce amazing results - And immense capacity to produce a heap on nonsensical nonsense. Mark's impressive use of an LLM to compose a coherent and to the point analysis of Prns was in the first of these categories, Prns itself is in the latter.

Let's not try to dress it up in good intentions, this is how evil will win in the end. Actions are actions, no matter the intention behind.

And your are right, there is not centralized power in Zen. But for the Zen mentality to exist and to be taken to heart, we as the community needs to remove the noise (aka Prns in this instance).

As for the rest of us reading this: support Mark the way he supports the network - not by shouting louder, but by checking the evidence in your own words, with your own effort. That is all any of us can do, and it is more than enough to keep this community vibrant and alive.

I myself is ashamed of staying quiet for so long - It is time we, the users of this state of the art communication tech - Starts to make our voices heard. The line should not be held merely by the few people involved in development and who make actual projects with Reticulum. We the users have a voice as well, let us use it and keep this community and this forum rigid and honest.

You're right @LadyinGreen, my post was kind of preachy and I wish I had rather just said "can we just not bully each other". In the end, intentions don't matter, it's the impact. I don't want to make excuses about that and I apologize that my post insinuated that.

I just hated seeing multiple posts bashing him which included one mocking him with LLM's and then a separate poll was created to banish him. I also hated seeing a project being created and marketed this way. I'm not trying to pat anyone on the back unless they are paying my bills. And I want to confess something: he does not pay my bills. I do not know this man lol

But no really. I don't want to encourage this LLM mess. It IS irresponsible. But in my humble opinion (very humble I swear!), I think bullying people, even for efforts that can be very dumb, so dumb as to want us to believe 600,000 lines of code were all human made, is not in the spirit of safeguarding the community we're trying to build. I also believe making this tool and trying to pass it off as safe for the community is absolutely not in that spirit. A firm no and DO NOT USE THIS TOOL is better, or we could have a list of "community accepted projects" that we all feel comfortable with and honor the efforts of the creators and developers. I'm just spitballing.

Anyway, you put it well and I agree that to make our voices heard, let's be responsible and do our work with our own brains and hands. Here's to supporting each other and this project through dialogue (even if it is messy) and yep, using our own effort and staying honest.

PS if anyone wants to pay my bills for a free pat on the back, I REBUKE thee in the name of reticulum and encourage you to donate towards this project instead

mecayotl, just a small aside. The poll was not to ban the creator of prns, rather a bad faith actor that is trying to sow discord in the community.

Bloody hell - you guys (admins) have the patience of ANGELS, it's blatantly obvious whoever is posting behind these AI slop nicks is concern-trolling, an energy vampire of the highest order. Just ban his whole IP range already, who cares, this isn't a mental institution where we have a duty to take into the opinions of AI slop loonies.

@mecayotl, thanks for the reply and I 100% agree with your main point. I would also like to see fewer harsh words! You have poured the antidote on the poison I mentioned, and I take that sentence back.

I can also see now that your first reply was based on wrong assumptions about who or what was being "bullied", and I agree it was a bit confusing. The comments by (@Supernihil / @Foobarbaz? / others) They were mostly from a single bad actor posting under lots of different names throughout the forum. I can understand and relate to the anger and frustration of the other users (this actor has nothing to do with Prns).

And to say it more clearly: I see nobody reprimanding Ken for trying his best or for having the idea of Prns.

The critique is all about how he presents his project to normal users as the "New Reticulum" - whether he is lying on purpose or not - users will have a hard time unpacking all his BS.

Had he presented his project in terms like this:

  • "I'm working on a Rust implementation of the RNS Python reference implementation by Mark Qvist."
  • "My plan is to utilize LLM code generation and review as we go along."
  • "If users volunteer to help test out this implementation, that would be great - it is in no way production ready yet, though, so keep this in mind."
  • "I'm really excited about getting to work on this project, and I plan to dedicate my time and effort here in the long run."

...Something along those lines.

Then I'm sure NOBODY would need to be told off. In fact, he could have been encouraged - maybe with a few snarky comments about the repo size, which no human can review - but that would have been it.
(But do we actually need a new Rediculum implementation at this point in time? Mark is still frequently making updates to the core, maybe it is too early? .. just me ranting ..)

However, this is how Prns was presented instead:

  • "Here is a new state-of-the-art, ground-up implementation of Reticulum" (basically Claude reading the RNS source, stealing Mark's work and getting confused about it - hidden from users, of course).
  • "Featuring Artificial claims, audits and benchmarks" (again, the truth is hidden deep, so users do not find out about the scam).
  • "We have it all, and it is AMAZING - Prns now takes the role rnsd holds today. You just type prnsd instead, and we are off to the moon."

This is a disgrace (stronger words could be used here!).
