# Live interface reload and control

The latest source version of RNS on Aleph (1.5.5) has added `--attach`, `--detach` and `--reload` options to `rnstatus`.

This means you can now stop, start and reload interfaces live while an RNS instance is running.

I'll have this out relatively soon, but if you try it out in the meantime, let me know if anything is wonky.

The API functions are also exposed (`Reticulum.reload_interface(name)`, et cetera), so applications that provide interface controls can use this for much easier hot-reloads, instead of having to restart the entire instance. It uses the latest config values from the configuration file on each attach/reload.

I was just thinking about this being one of the things I wanted to add to my impl. About 5 minutes ago. Then I see this. (coming from i2pd, live reload is nice, although idk if i2pd's works)

One question, for us Docker users, would it make sense if I could contribute some code whereby this same functionality could be triggered by a UNIX/POSIX signal? As I could (i think) probably put something together to send a signal into the container. I mean, I guess I could also just `docker exec reticulum_container rnstatus --reload`, yeah that would work. Nevermind :)

I would guess this also works with rnstatus remote managent, but I could be wrong
